People screaming, running frightened in all directions. Him watching from a safe distance. Standing at a large window in his office, TV flickers in the background showing the pictures of a panicked crowd. He hold a glass with scotch reflecting the cold light in a golden tone. A tiny smile crept over his face tugging slightly at the corners of his mouth, highlighting his eyes with mockery.

A feeling of power flooded his body tickling in his stomach.

All those people were screaming because of him. They were scared because of him. He was ruling their lives. He was as powerful as a God right now. They would live or die because he wanted them to do so. This was so much better than what the beautiful woman last night could do to him.

Only he could stop the last three bombs from detonating by flipping the red switch. They were all placed along the way these people took to get away from the flames, poisonous smoke and death. But those screams and the scent of fear he could smell, even through closed windows, remembering all the other times he had smelled it before. All this was too good a feeling to keep the bombs from detonating.

He took a deep breath closing his eyes for a second to relish the moment. But they soon popped open again, when the screams of fear turned into screams of cheer and hope. The different 'aaahhh's turned into 'Superman!'.

How he hated this big blue birdlike alien! That freak never let him enjoy his work. But then the 'ratatatatatatatatatatatatata' of machine guns could be heard and the smile crept back in Luthor's face. The goons he payed obviously were smart enough to do as they were told. At least one of the bullets made of lead mixed with green and red kryptonite must have hit the target.

With burning eyes the billionaire followed the hero's path through the sky memorizing all the ups and downs, straights and u-turns he performed. If Luthor's research team didn't bring the wished results he would go there and look for samples himself. He knew that somewhere along the way there must have fallen a few droplets of precious blood.

A knock on his door interrupted his musings.

“Come in!”

Following the harsh order a shy beauty entered announcing with flushed cheeks:
“Mr. Luthor, your team called.”

Rising his eyebrows he encouraged the woman to go on keeping himself from telling her that he wouldn't be sorry to fire her again if she kept wasting his time with unnecessary pauses. When she needed more encouragement he spoke with a rough voice:

“What did they say?”

Sending him a short look through long black lashes she finally delivered the message:
“They found something. But it's such a small amount that they're not sure of succeeding.”

Growling like a thunder the genius criminal said:
“I don't pay them for doubts. I pay for success. They better make sure that either the sample is big enough or they succeed with the small one they have.”

Turning back to the window and the nightly skyline of Metropolis he continued over his shoulder.
“And Miss Pearly – please make sure they know what happens if they don't succeed.”

The words were spoken in a friendly tone drooling with kindness. But a sharp intake of breath, hasty ruffling and steps followed by the sound of his closing door told the mastermind that his orders were understood and done. Except for her shyness and insecurity Miss Pearly definitely had her useful sides.

Besides she reminded him, if only by look, of another woman he would so happily seduce. Her brown eyes and dark curls mirrored the features of a ambitious journalist who was quite close to his enemy. What a sweet success would it be to seduce Lois Lane. But first he had to make sure her flying boyfriend was out of the way...
